I thought last year's lineup was incredible, and was my first Lockn, so I can't say for certain if that was part of it...but just being there made the great acts better and the ok acts good, so atmosphere, friends, constant music, camping makes it worth it for me.
I can only imagine that being there this year will have the exact same effect. Plus, I'm a Phish fan, so that's an easy dunk for me.

There are very few bands who I would go see over JRAD right now - all of which would be a major headliner at this festival. And if we are just talking dead tunes, for my money right now I'd rather see JRAD over P&F or Ratdog. Billy & The Kids is probably the closes but would still most likely pick JRAD.
I'm sure I'm in the minority, but taking a year off of seeing multiple sets of cheese and WSP is ok for me personally. I put them on the same level of Umphrey's / TTB (recently they have escalated above all these for me but i'll keep them in here) / Gary Clark and CRB, all of whom will be present.
If you like Funk, Lettuce and Turkuaz are both very, very good (hoping Lettuce gets the leftover late night set) haven't seen Vulfpeck but hear good things.

Clearly with 4 prime slots taken up by Phish, if you genuinely don't like them, you will probably be more inclined to go with a different festival.
Brandi Carlisle is pretty cool, nice voice, nice writing, a little like Kacey Musgraves but different orientation, may offend certain strains of bigots (yay!). Saw Gary and Brandi both at Floydfest.
Donna and the Buffalo are amusing, and they play in university towns like Cville and Morgantown, a lot. Making a living at it.
I have seen Moon Taxi twice in Cville, once as an opener and very recently as the headliner at the Jeff, fun band, got some good things going on. They have moved up from ratty E350 to a leased tour bus; glad to see young bands progressing on up financially and artistically. Nice keyboards, BTW.
I'm pretty damn good on the line up this year, though the price increases are difficult if not impossible to justify. And though I sincerely tried hard to be open minded on the post-Jerry Dead derivations, I unfortunately lost interest in them and honestly don't care if any or all show up. Minority opinion, I realize, and I hope everyones dreams come true, because I want you all to be happy.
I miss Jerry.

Phish is $45 for GA Lawn per show this tour. $ sets count as 2 shows. It doesn't matter if the last time you paid for a ticket was 2003 or if you found one on lot for $20. This is what they cost. (90)
The Ween shows at Terminal 5 in NYC are $50 a night but that is NYC. They were probably that much for the Denver shows. (50)
MMJ at the Criterion in OKC are $30. (30)
TTB is $30 (Buffalo)-$40 (Cleveland) for a show. (35)
CRB are $20 (Richmond) - $40 (Hartford). (30)
JRAD is $36 (Salt Lake) to $65 (Belly Up in Aspen) per show so $72-130 for 2 late night shows. (70)
UMphrey's was $25 the other night here. (25)
Those are all venue prices, not StubHub or other secondary market prices. Plus they don't include any fees that add another 5-10 per show.
Add Galactic, Lettuce, Hard Working Americans, Charles Bradley and Gary Clark Jr at $20 a show. (100)
Plus the 2 Keller shows, EOTO, Turkuaz, Vulfpeck, White Denim, Twiddle, Donna the Buffalo, Moon Taxi all at $15. (135)
Don't even count Brandi Carlisle or Doobie Decible. OR Circles and who knows what that would cost if you could see it but you can't.
You think that is a $175 ticket? But only worth $50-75?
Wrong dude, it's more like a $550 ticket without fees. That is only counting 1 Ween set at $50, not 2, and low end of JRAD at $35/show.
Lockn' tickets were $200 not $300. Transportation fees pretty much are a wash. Parking and hotels for all those shows more than offset the camping fees.
I get that if it isn't all Dead then you aren't interested and that the value may not be there for you but come on. $175? Really?

If anyone around here dwells on the old stuff it's me. But we said we have to make a conscious effort to get to know--and support--the ones coming up through the ranks who will by nature replace the old ones, and meanwhile change the music. If it's the Dead, it's JRAD, Chris Robinson, etc. If it's the Allman Brothers its TTB and WSP. Even better is find the blended bands like some we saw at Lockn, where the old guy (like Melvin Seals) brings along the young ones.
Soon we won't be able to fill a stage much less a festival unless we look to the young 'uns and give them respect and room on the stage.
(was listening to Chris Stapleton who is filling my void for Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and David Alan Coe)

I saw The Grateful Dead for $15. With Jerry. So...

Hard Working Americans is a great addition. Looking forward to seeing them.
Never seen Phish but am really excited to see their show(s).
MMJ is good. Seen them a bunch of times but not sure that they're headliner material. But, I have to admit that each time I saw them was a day after seeing the Drive by Truckers who jammed and brought a lot of energy. So, maybe it was bad timing, so looking forward to seeing them in the mix of the day and see if I'm more enthralled this time.
Everything Keller Williams does is great, and Umphrey's McGee will be fun to see again.
Normally, I wouldn't pay $5 to go see Ween at a local bar. But, I'm hoping that others know something that I don't, and they end up blowing my mind. Or, I'll take an extended beer break (which isn't all that bad either).
I think once they fill the Saturday void (in the example itinerary at beginning of thread), then we should be all set.

And I saw them for $7.50 with Jerry and that isn't relevant either.

Keller was kinda a dick? Every single person that I know that has met him must have a different definition of what kinda a dick means.
