I went to the original Rothbury's and that venue is beyond description. I've been to The Gorge, Red Rocks, I've seen a concert on a mountain top. NOTHING touches sherwod forest, period. However I've never been able to get myself to go back, I hate DJ's and EDM with a fiery passion, and even my friends who like that music say they can't handle going to Electric Forest after the first couple years due to the tweaker teens. I know what they meant, though not first hand on a large scale until last year. I went to the last day of summer camp (Moe. Jason Isbell, Petty W/Mudcrutch it was a KILLER day) but the amount of kids between the ages of 17 and 22 zonked out of their minds on Molly and designer drugs was unbearable (OK for 1 day to see 3 incredible shows it was bearable, but you get what I'm saying at). I realized there's WAY more electronic and such at EFF, and I can only imagine that beautiful, magical forest venue being over run with double of what I saw that day at summer camp. I saw MMJ is playing this year, I like SCI, there's also plenty of bands EFF gets that play between like 2 and 8pm that are great. But even if I could stomach the near $300 ticket for like 10 good bands I just could never handle having those memories be tarnished. My memories of Rothbury and the forest are so semi vivid and dream like, I couldn't handle them being destroyed or diminished. I have faith that some day they'll reinstate a real festival on that hollowed ground, but until then I'll only have those memories.

At some point I'm going to have to just bite the bullet and go. I hear you on the Kidz-On-Drugz but I figure I can handle the fairy wings and hula-hoops for long enough to check out the forest.

Well its important for them if they want me to come out there.  And it should be, my presence alone increases the overall vibez at events by 10%-15% on average...

Well its important for them if they want me to come out there.  And it should be, my presence alone increases the overall vibez at events by 10%-15% on average...

Hard to figure this out. Not sure if saturday is light or friday is heavy. If main stage doesnt open til 4:00, friday sets will only be about an hour each. And i have to guess they wont start right at 4.

Yea I agree, hard to figure out. The only thing I based this on is the fact that there are three fewer bands listed on Saturday. Might not mean a thing. May need to fill out the Mock schedule with times to see.

Something that Bill and I were pondering this weekend is how are they going to handle back to back bands at the BRB. In the past of course only one band had been scheduled there in the mornings and they had all the time that they needed to set up the stage. What happens now? Thirty minutes between bands? Rotating stage? I have a feeling that they will test these logistics at the Bruce Hornsby show, including setup of viewing areas (and shoulder ride loading and unloading zones).

at least it doesn't have to take as long to load out/in the smaller bands; they can have them use a lot of the same equipment.

The schedule does seem a little ... odd.

I hadn't even considered the stage setup aspect. That makes the whole BRB early stuff seem even more of a bad idea, and even more likely to be plenty of overlap between the BRB sets and the early main stage sets.

The schedule is odd. I think it's weird how much Dead there is on Friday, with almost zero on both Thursday and Saturday. Why don't they make JRAD Thursday and Saturday instead of having them play immediately after Phil & Bob on Friday night? I guess they are that scared of Biscuits fans and want them out after day 1.

The entire schedule is just more siloed than in the past. Only acts playing multiple days are Phil & JRAD, even among ones that have multiple sets. Not ideal for me personally.

I'm unsure if many care but Nick and I have made an official decision that we won't be attending this year. The lineup is solid, but not solid enough for Nick to blow all his vacation in August (we're already going to the last four Baker's Dozen shows in NYC). He just got a new job and his days off are limited until the New Year. 

I've considered booking a plane ticket and sponging off one of you for a place to lay my head on Fri/Sat... 

I don't know. I'm really bummed.

This is what limits us.  My wife has limited time off.  I'd love to do a second festival but the time is always more of a problem.

I'm sure a lot of us care, I'm one of them. Sad to see you guys miss it and understand the time off thing. If you can swing it I would come, I'm sure someone will have some extra space. This lineup really is going to get much better when they fill in some of the blanks, IMHO.
