And now, because absolutely nobody asked or cares (and if you do, you shouldn't), but mostly because I am bored at work with nothing to do for the next two hours, here are my overall thoughts as the big day (4 days actually) approaches:
You are perfectly within your right to disagree with anything I say, and I certainly don't mean to diss anybody's favorite band (from what I've read many people on this forum dislike bands I love), this is just one dude's opinion.
THURSDAY: Will roll in whenever. Don't care about the first several bands. I'm sure they are great, but as long as I am there for Umphrey's I am stoked because they bring it live. Definitely looking forward to SCI, although I'd rather they just played one long set instead of a bunch of short sets because I'm afraid that will keep them from busting out some killer jams. Great late night sets tonight and an awesome start to a killer festival!
FRIDAY: Bummed I will miss Keller's Grateful Grass today, but I am staying in a hotel and don't care about any of the bands before Del McCoury. Del is always a blast though and I am really glad they moved him back a few slots from where they originally had him. PHJB...they're cool, nothing mind-blowing to me but I'll watch them. Drive-By Truckers....a friend recommends them but I tried getting into them once and it didn't take....they can be background music while I get some grub.
Kreutzmann's Allstars....this one could be fun, and at the very least we're being treated to something new and fresh that nobody's seen before. Let's give it a shot, shall we?
Phil & Friends.....YES!!!!! This line-up of Friends is what first attracted me to this festival. To be honest I don't care about losing Ratdog or Furthur. Saw Ratdog twice this summer, and Bob was pretty out of it. Hoping he rests up and gets everything right in his life. As far as Furthur, I see a lot of love for Kadlecik on this site but he just doesn't do it for me, and in fact is the reason I never saw
Furthur live. As long as Phil brings his A game (which he will) I won't miss Ratdog or Furthur.
Late night Derek & Susan acoustic followed by Chris Robinson Brotherhood? Christmas in September, man.
SATURDAY: Holy friggin crap. This day might kill me. Definitely catching Keller today and every band right up to Wilco is a must see (I haven't heard anything of FREEMAN but suspect it will be interesting). Thank God for Wilco's set or I may forget to eat and use the facilities. Two more hours of Phil & Friends? Thanks, I'll take it. Winwood sitting in with Panic? Don't mind if I do.
Love Petty but have seen him a few times in the past so he's not on the bucket list or anything. Still, when he is one of the artists you are less fired up about, then that's the sign you are at an incredible festival.
Late night Tuna? Oh yeah, that's the stuff. Never heard Bustle and I like the musicians in it and of course Zep rocks, but dude....I'm not counting on having any gas in the tank at this point.
SUNDAY: Sleeping in! Recovering from almost 14 hours straight of great music (minus 90 minutes of Wilco). Skipping the first few bands. But gotta see Willie. I know he's up there in age but the guy's a legend. Wilco--dinner break. Panic will be a very nice warm up for....ABB!!!!! Over-the-moon excited about this one. PLEASE stay healthy Greg! This will be my first (and likely last) time seeing them and the fact I am guaranteed to hear Whipping Post is good. Very, very good.
Thank you in advance Lockn' Festival and all the good people that attended for the amazing time I am about to have!
