Thinking of going VIP next year but want to hear from some of you who experienced it this year with this new layout. One question: If you have family camping elsewhere there, can't you get them into VIP for a visit with you. We have gifted our son the Lockn' festival every year but we'd put him in car camping or forest if he chooses, but not VIP.

Had a friend that went VIP this year.. Big mistake. His daughter was GA and they wouldn't let her or ANYONE in for a visit. In years past I would stop by and visit once or twice.. not this year. They were on lockdown 24/7, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Good to know. It may not stop us from going VIP. It would mean we have to plan other ways to get together.

The viewing area's not that great of A perk and proximity really's not crazy closer...But showers and restrooms were awesome, red bull was cheaper, and the free food was really good. I think with an RV Ga would be just as good, but if I'm tent camping VIP for sure. Hope that helps some.

Now that I've done both VIP car camping and GA car camping, I'd say VIP is a luxury, but not a necessity, that is worth it. But if you were buying several tickets, the value diminishes quickly, and a GA RV would be the better call.
But that's if up-close viewing is not the top reason to pay more--it's not for me, but for some it is.
there is also the factor of whether you have friends in a different category.

There is an easy way to decide to go GA vs. VIP. Ask your wife what she wants to do and do that...I have done that so I'll be going VIP again next year...

Not including the ga camping pass, groceries or beer we brought (which I assume would be the same if I went VIP), I spent $260 on food, beer and merch the whole time. $75 of that was on a poster (no comments please). I guess proximity to the venue is a good thing, but I kinda see the walking as a free workout. That leaves access to the rail as the only perk I would get for VIP. Given my general tastes lean toward the occasional guests or less popular headliners, I just don't see a value for me. I could have thrown a quarter at Jim James last year and this. I could have thrown a nickel at Hiss Golden Messenger. I could probably have grabbed Jeff Tweedy's shoe if I had cared enough to walk down there. Hard for me to justify the price tag, but understand that others have different priorities.

I did ga rv for L1 and had a great spot on the near edge of the ridge and could see the stage. It was far. Two beer walk. Decided to upgrade to VIP rv L2 only for the proximity. Went same way 4&5. We don't know what next year looks like yet but proximity wasn't an issue for anyone this year. Matter of fact, being a Thursday noon arrival, lots of ga was closer than me (TOO, you had a great spot!). I'm still going to do VIP rv next year, if I'm able to go. They (CID) make it really easy for me and my crew. There's the stuff on the list of perks, then there's the little things. I won't list the little things. Nobody will be impressed. But they happen frequently. I dig the total experience they provide. In full disclosure, I had a few moments on Thursday, where I questioned the value. That was all done by Thursday night. I'm on record around here as being of the opinion that CID makes you happy with your purchase. YMMV

Keep in mind that they may move the parts around next year; this was the first run.
I think the stages and show field will stay where they were, with minor shifts, but camping areas, entrances, vending can all shift. Even at the last minute, as they did this year.

I agree, CID does a great job with the little things and weighs in my decision. I did have a great spot and that came from a well executed plan with just a dash of randomness thrown in. One thing we have always had in VIP RV is level campsites and that is worth a premium. If you are in GA RV your campsite levelness is random, unless you are NCLockn.
