Band announcements

My evening predictions/hopeful speculation (since at this time of year they're the same thing):
Thursday: Jrad opens the main stage, Greensky, Moe, Avette (If they must close one night make it Thursday. late night: Moe
Friday: Terrapin station trib, Cheese, Umph, Clinton Incident, Late Night: Jrad
Saturday: Mule, Panic, TTB Tribute set (holding out hope), Phil Q Late night: Umph
Sunday: Mule, Panic, Bobby campfire

Has a band ever played both the main stage and late night on the same day before? I don't think you'll see moe. Do that but I could be wrong.

Has anyone ever suggested giving Cheese a late night? They don't seem all that much bigger than some of the others that have played the BRB. Would be pretty sweet IMO.

Dave Dreiwitz played with Ween then went over to BRB to play with JRAD last year.

Individual performers have done both a main set and then a late night set. Mickey did it. Warren did it.

An entire band has not done it.

Saturday last 2 bands = TBA act (Bobby) & Panic w/ Umphrey's late night

^Combination of what I think will happen and hope will happen.  This or switch JRAD and moe. on Thursday if JRAD is getting two late nights again.

That looks likely. I think you can realistically add another band of the same stature to Fri, Sat & Sun.

Last year...
Thursday last 2 bands = Umphreys & Ween w/ JRAD late night
Friday last 3 bands = Ween, Phish & Phish w/ JRAD late night
Saturday last 3 bands = Phil, TTB & MMJ w/ Lettuce late night
Sunday last 4 bands = Phil, Gary Clark Jr, Phish & Phish

I am confused by this assessment. Are you suggesting that Moe's fan base is made up of people who came from traumatic environments with terribly dysfunctional families? Or that in general, a lot of people grew up in really traumatic environments with terribly dysfunctional families and it's a good thing when they are able to find something that they enjoy....even if it's Moe?

Yea, maybe I'm a little harsh on moe. I just couldn't get into them.

This was really subjective and I was in a really ... contemplative and impressionable ... mood at the time, but I met and chatted with several folks that were big moe. fans asking what they liked about them / when they started going to see them, etc.  For some reason many of those folks related some personal stuff about childhood trauma or family struggles, and I came away with that (admittedly weird) impression of moe. fans.

Headspace, timing, tiny sample size and all that.  But it stuck in my head.

Everyone of the moe. fans I talked to were really super great and kind people by the way.  I didn't mean my comment to disparage anyone in any way.

Wasn't familiar with the term "Prog Rock".  I'm a big fan of Umphrey's, but admit I've seen them do sets there were sort of "meh".  Not sure how to characterize what was different, except to say that when Umphery's is more "themselves" it's really awesome.  That L3 late night set at BRB being a prime example, for anyone who saw it.

I guess I'd say that set was more "Jammy", but not sure I've ever seen them do anything "Proggy", at least the way it's described in this article.  Best description I could find.

Prog rock is awesome, but it can sometimes come across as overly technical and a little lacking in soulfulness. And that's the rub on Umphrey's that I've generally heard from people that don't like them. Personally I do like them, but no one is going to accuse them of evoking the type of emotion that you typically would get at something like a Dead or even Phish show.
