Meet up Discussion Thread - food/beer requests

Hope no one minds, but since we have a meeting set up now, I thought I'd start a separate discussion thread.

Which is to say, a super thin veiled attempt to request some American Pale Lagers. In particular, if you have access to: Hoponius Union, Bell's Quinannan Falls Lager, Otter Creek Mantra, Hopstitution #3-Calyptra, Styriana, The One They Call Zoe, American Darling, or Sri Laga, then name your price. I live in central VA and other than the brewers who are going to be at Lockn, can get you Legend's, Center of the Universe (bringing some of them anyway), and Hardywood to name the more popular places.


As I mentioned before, also bringing a Parm Chickpea snack but not a ranch dip which would compliment it really well but don't trust my coolers to keep something like that good.


Going solo so looking forward to meeting ya'll!

I don't drink but I live in Vermont so I looked up the Otter Creek Mantra . It looks like all their beer comes in glass except one. I'll try for some of that.

Center of the universe?  Is that out of out of Ashland, VA? I know that is the town's motto which is hilarious. As you leave there is a sign saying "You are leaving the center of the universe"  or something like that.

I also live in "central VA" (split time between Richmond and Fredericksburg)...having a tough time with local cans from brewers not already at Lockn.   If you're going to do COTU then I'll focus more on Hardywood cans.   I don't think Legend's cans anything, but I'll check.

Good call on Hardywood. I got a 6-pack of COTU's Ray Ray. I may try to bring more than the 1 case per person so I can bring some extra to the group.

yes it must be cans--and since I plan to represent beers from my hometown in Norfolk Virginia that cuts out the best, O'Connors. But I have Smartmouth so I'll bring that, and maybe other Virginia beers who are not represented by the vendors.

And endless summer's marketing plan sadly is very true; this fad of over-hopped beer with goofy labels is getting out.

Blue Ridge has that Steel Wheels ESB Extra Strong Bitters I highly recommend, and Starr Hill's stout Dark Starr is tops, too.

i just read this:
Aircraft cabins are pressurized, and that same air pressurizes the cargo compartments as well. The cabin altitude will likely be around 8000 feet or so, and soda or beer will not explode at that pressure differential, which will be around 7.8 PSI. Consider that the flight attendants serve beer and soda from unexploded cans and bottles.

BUT...

Baggage is handled roughly, and if the cans or bottles are in a position to get banged, crushed, or impacted in any way, this could weaken their structural integrity and cause them to pop or break. No amount of packaging (i.e. putting them in ziplock bags) will prevent them from making a mess should they break. Also, you will not be able to take the beer through airport TSA security in your carry-on baggage, it exceeds the size/ounce limitation allowed.
