Normally I wait till the next day to post my thoughts on a show for fear of "irrational exuberance", if you will.
However, Marcus King was unbelievably good. He channels Stevie Ray, Hayes, and Trucks (and there's good reason the latter two appear on his record) and the kid is only 20 years old. His voice is that perfect gravel bluesy scratch and you can just tell by watching him play that the torch will be handed to him to carry for years to come (good lord, willin').
His band was good enough (the horns just make it that much better) but its only a matter of time before King ends up with a kick ass band. I'm not saying there will ever be another TTB, but I'm telling you that you want to catch him now, if for no other reason than to say "I remember when I saw him....".
Depending on the weather at Lockn this year, I really hope he gets a late afternoon/early evening slot b/c anything earlier is just not fair to him or the fans that don't want to hit the sun too soon.
Eric Krasno was tight as hell and will also be a great set to catch, its just that I expected him to be good and he was, but Marcus King was just mind blowing.
I'll post setlists/videos if&when I can.

Krasno was also outstanding. Unfortunately for him, though, he was completely upstaged by King. Not intentionally, but the presentations were different. King had a whole show, with horns, quirky stage presence, unique voice. Krasno was the feature; it was a guitar concert to see him play (although his back-up guitar has great spots as did the solos from the others). His vocals are fine but not what he's there for.
However, his band was tight and they were precise in their breaks. They really shined when they did Joplin's "move over" and sounded just like the Full Tilt Boogie Band she had on Pearl, which was a great ensemble sadly cut short.
You can easily see him jumping in with anyone else. He's got a very mature style but largely electric blues based; I thought a lot about Thackery, Thoroughgood and Jimmie Vaughan. But he carried the soul, a funk edge and nailed both Sugaree and Whipping Post precisely. Very versatile.
His weak spot was his female vocalist (others liked her) who to me was like a college girl celebrating her 21st birthday in the bar so they gave her a mic. Not her fault but she did not look the part and her voice, and stage presence, was awkward and immature (I saw Sue Foley like that decades ago but her guitar carried the day).
Krasno/King are getting back together in Martinsville VA May 27
