Venue Changes 2017

Will have more events there in 2017.  Will announce these in January.

Will be opening the showfield later in the day at Lockn.  (says more events as BRB, not sure if that means more bands or not).

I was getting ready to post this. Shows before 4pm are going to be played at the BRB. I think this is a great idea. Smaller crowds in a smaller venue. Sun will not be in the eyes of the artists. Gary Clark Jr. playing to an empty venue (last year)sucks for everyone. Also hear that they are building a crap load of shade around BRB. 

Also hear there will be some sort of Jerry Garcia celebration show on the Farm, not sure of date or content.

I wouldnt say they owe us but it is what they are known for. And they know this otherwise why create the rotating stage last year?

to me the only way to make it work is to have some overlap, say bands on both venues from 3-5 but that takes away one of Lockn's big brags--continuous music and no conflicts. But the quality of the bands in the late afternoon has been stellar--drive by truckers, trombone shorty, St Paul, Grace Potter, Moon Alice--acts that should be on the big stage, rather than stuffed into a smaller one.

Also, do they have VIP at BRB? Is it big enough when you have good acts in the daytime? Because if it's small, the VIP's will be pissed, rightly so, and if it's big, the GA's will be pissed, rightly so.

And I like being on the show field when the crowd is spead out--better than the impossible sardines at night.

I'm not seeing this as a good idea. Then again, I can handle heat (which, BTW, is not guaranteed).

I think those are some good changes especially if it's going to be as hot as it was last year. And if they add shade to the brb, I will be very happy. Would make the day shows so much easier to see.

TOO had a lot more details than what i heard on the radio.

I wonder if the Bowl will be crowded for all of those shows?

I guess the organizers know the capacity of the venue...

It will create a jam at the entrance to the main show field.

I hope they go back to a 4pm start on Thursday. They would have had everybody in this year and I think that 7pm start was an (understandable) overreaction.

Also liked to stroll into the main field and stake out an ideal spot, usually towards the rear, and just chill during the afternoon. Plenty of room to stretch out, sleep, whatever. This new plan will eliminate all that. I get the idea but wondering if majority of fans will approve. Might have to post a poll.

Cant do that cause the show field doesnt open until 4 from what im reading. At 4 its a clusterfuck to race in to get a spot. And i assume brb will be packed enough that the chill and spread out situation wont be in effect.

I believe the "instant segues" were Dave and Pete's idea. Kinda why they named the festival Interlocken.

Whew. Could be a great idea if they provide relief from the heat. I'm out there pretty much from the first band till late night, and I can appreciate what they are doing during the day....I was just concerned it would be at the expense of being completely out in the open in the heat all afternoon. At least (for VIP) we could run inside for a few, have water, then go back outside, and have shit tons of water.

You ain't lying... I didn't enjoy myself nearly as much as I wanted because I was simultaneously fanning myself and holding my umbrella to protect me from the scorching rays of the sun. It was all for naught because I was still drenched with sweat.

Virginia is hot and humid in August and September. No way around that other than luck. Two weeks doesn't matter. Shade helps, obviously, but heat is heat.

Then again remember it being in the 40's Sunday night for Robert Plant at L3?

If they have a couple hours of music in the afternoons at BRB, they will sell beer and not allow BYOB (my opinion, no intel). And if they are set up for that, I wonder what they'd do at night and the early morning shows? Maybe since they can't sell after 1:00 am they will let it slide.

Closing the showfield until 4 does not seem conducive to happily wandering around the site, checking out vendors, playing games, etc. It also means no lunch. It kills the VIP tent. So I expect to see food and vendors accessible before 4--maybe they will move the gate/fence closer to the stage? Or set up food/vending more centrally (shake down)?

Last year, if you bought beer at the beer garden next to BRB, you had to drink it on the spot; you couldn't carry it into BRB (state law not Frey law) .  The first year that they had the Spring TTB gig at BRB they had a beer garden on the BRB grounds, and that was very good, except for the prison grounds lighting.  I'm sure they will figure something out cuz beer profits are remarkable.

As for the main field, I hope they let people in to eat, drink, buy festie crap, set up, etc.  But if they don't open the gates til 4, it's gonna be a hot and sad cluster fuck of a line to get in.

That's HUGE to be able to drink what YOU brought iinside the BRB. I hope it doesn't get taken away from us. Tryna watch Keller on Sun am was a bit difficult given the heat. I'm all in for some shade at the BRB. I think it's a good idea, but don't take away my ability to bring my own ICRB's. I can't possibly see them shutting down the main field until 4pm. That's screwing way too many vendors, and losing $ for all.

I did hear that for VIP at BRB, they were considering a TVIP. And that would consist of your own "Tree". Yup, they are considering building tree houses along the treelines of the BRB. Whateva' works. Maybe it's time to send StillLifeStillDead on a reconnaissance mission and get the scoop first hand. He's awfully close to the farm, but I don't think he could drive on any public road to where he could see what/if any construction is taking place. I'm def curious to know! Anyone else have any more "skinny"? Please chime in.
Personally, I think Frey is gonna announce Dead & Company in January.

It Goddamn better be! I know that ABC people in VA are the worst kinds of "get off on power" and "general Assholes" persons of government. Wouldn't be surprised if they find a way to ruin it.

That would be purely a festival management decision, not an ABC one.

I would anticipate vendor beer sales during the day shows but BYOB for late night. But unless they are offering a Bloody Mary option in the BRB on Sunday morning for Grateful Gospel I will burn that place to the ground.

Virginia ABC laws separate beer/wine and liquor (in Nashville, it's beer, or wine/liquor) unless you get a license for both, and liquor licenses are expensive with too many rules.

However, recently at some public events they are serving low-alcohol liquor drinks like coolers with vodka in them. So a lightweight Bloody (call it a Bloody Shame?) is possible.

Some restaurants without a liquor license serve wine-based "mixed drinks" at brunch, etc, to go with mimosa's and have come up with Screwdrivers and Bloodies made with wines that work.

But they could also sell Bloody Beers (red-eyes) that are seen in bars outside factories serving those getting off the night shift.
