it really makes me appreciate how hard the whole crew worked last year with the storm.  I was just having a blast, everybody else was working.

Good interview. The main things I took away from this is what Dave said is the new one larger turntable stage. And he finished with they have a few more announcements that will freak out some people. It was interesting Dave talking about all they had to go thru after last years storm. Good find!!

Great interview! Glad to know that there will be a turntable (rotating) stage. Studies have shown that 24 miles per hour is the best speed for a rotating stage ( coincidentally the same average air speed of an unladen European swallow). I see the whole thing going down something like this....

Stray observations:

I can't believe I'm obsessive enough to watch all of that on a Saturday afternoon.

One rotating stage now. So many changes. Will it be too many, too fast for me/her/both of us?

Worst production from a group purporting to be a resource for AV production professionals EVAR. Was Dave their big get? Whose cousin knows him tangentially?

What was up with the webcam angle on Dave? Did he just get his sun-room done and want to show it off? Every time he's on camera, it looks like desktop wallpaper. We should make some stills and start a "Dave Sez" meme.

STOP TALKING ABOUT NEIL LIKE IT HAPPENED.

Knew it took a miracle to pull 2015 off; seriously low-balled the magnitude of that miracle. The host seemed to think the overall vibe was attaboy, but who cares what he thinks? Not three guys on reddit and one severely unbalanced forum commenter, that's for sure.

I don't feel like Thursday 2015 was erring too much on the side of caution. I think emptying the field in 2014 was, though.

Dave's very likeable. Shap's too much of a bro for me (I tease because I love, big guy).

He admitted there weren't enough portas, smosey wales. Feel better?

I really appreciated the interview. I thought he was honest and didn't talk about things he did not understand with the festival. It seemed to be a skype type interview and I thought it was pretty cool of Frey to take time and do the interview. The radio station sidekick seemed somewhat clueless to rock and roll. I wish they would have limited his time and ask more questions about music. I am interested to see how the rotating stage will work. It will have to be huge and circular. My guess is there will be permanent structures on the sides. To know that they were transporting port-a-johns from the field to the camps shows how much they wanted to make things the best they could. He talked a lot about SCI and WSP, I hope that is a good sign. Does Dead and Co. qualify as mind blowing? They are fun and would be great as the Saturday headliner, but would not describe as mind blowing. Sly and Family Stone Incident and/or WSP tribute to Levon with Larry and Teresa, now those would be mind blowing. Let the speculating begin

The way I took it is that it's one large stage that they will rotate to change bands. Makes it sound like a short break between bands. Hope they thought this out, sounds like a set up for problems with everything working correctly.

It's been done before at music fests and is a common thing in theater production. Check out Goose Lake Festival . It seemed to work well there in 1970.

This may seem obvious but if they don't need 2 stages for the quick switch anymore, then why do we need to rotate instead of just facing forward?

They are going to use the rotation of the stage to accomplish the quick change instead of having side by side stages.

Oh so they will set up on the back half while the front half is playing and then twist it around to face the crowd? should be interesting.

It will be interesting to see how they reconfigure the layout for the turntable stage. However it is I see it as being an improvement for GA and the VIP area getting smaller if it remains in the middle like the last two years. Or they could put the GA back in the middle and split the VIP on the ends (hope not). Ideally they could stack the VIP section over top of the GA viewing area and we could both be centered on the stage. Of course beer spillage from the VIP above could be a problem for the GA below but I guess that is what raincoats are for.

Curious to find out what announcements are going to make people "freak out".

We're already used to it from the shoulder rides, so it's really not even an issue.

Well for the sake of GA, I hope the young lady who squatted and peed in GA in front of me last year doesn't upgrade to VIP this year

I think it would have to be good to be considered a "freak out". To me last years Mad Dogs & Englishmen tribute was a freak out. So yea they need to make it a good thing for middle-aged & old hippie types.

And I agree that sounds like permanent infrastructure, but I can't see the farm owners allowing that--unless there is a big move in the works....

Maybe they are doing this to keep Phil from pretending to be doing sound checks while his competition is performing next door.

I like the side by side and it allows you to set up in front of the dark stage to be in place for the next show; I liked the crowd movement, too, and changing scenes. I moved through both GA sides as well as VIP, depending on who I was with at the time.

It would be nice if they also rotated those stupid flag wavers out of the front as well.

they also need to create a no-chairs allowed walkway circling around behind the ADA platforms near the second level of speakers for better flow from one stage to the other.

And a no chairs walkway straight out of VIP to the beer tents. That is if no shoulder rides are available.
