Do not ever miss this band! We got four hours of top shelf Grateful Dead by very good musicians. The female singer has fixed the Donna problem. The songs are a mix but tend to be in the 1970's.
Opened with Some of Tom Thumb's Blues. First set included Passenger, Mama Tried, Big River, Chinatown. Threw in a little bottleneck slide. Second set had Playing ITB go into The Eleven and back out, plus Weather Report Suite (female vox) into Terrapin. A short Drums was very enjoyable because the drummers were really going at it as musicians. PLayed until after midnight which is rare these days; Sugar Magnolia closer.
In the mix we had Ramblin' Rose, Candyman, Music Never Stopped, China Rider.
$20 cover, free parking, wander to and from the front, $6 PBR tall boys. I'll take that over any shed show I don't care who's playing Dead.
Best part (well, next to the $6 PBR tall boys) was my crew: sister and BIL, daughter and SIL, two nieces and a nephew to be. Represent!

One fairly long set; I missed not having the background light show they had last year.
It was interesting that the stage seemed sparse; very basic equipment almost like a bar band set-up, and likewise the music wasn't over-produced, either. Gave it all a nice vibe, especially being a seated show, so you focused more one the music.
A short opening act was a young female singer with a three piece acoustic band, and a voice that hearkened to Ella Fitzgerald.
Roanoke tonight and on the road for a while!

Killer show last night--it was an elective. Full band. Lisa ("Donna") sang a deep voiced It Hurts Me Too and wailed on the harp--a spectacular performance that I don't think you'd see in a "show" set. They did Mojo Working which is weird b/c another Dead band, Last Fair Deal did it when I saw them a few weeks ago, and GD only performed it twice! They also did a killer Low Spark of High Heeled Boys which I didn't know the GD ever did. Drums were too long but TEHO. Vocals were a little off some, adding to the reality!
You all will have fun at the Jubilee
ETA Apparently The Grateful Dead did not perform Low Spark but The Dead did; that iteration featured Winwood so it makes sense.

Just another Tuesday night at 5 Points Music Sanctuary with Andy Frasco & The U.N. w Joe Samba. Wow is all that I can say. I've never seen 5 Points as lit as it was last night. Andy Frasco brought the house down and front row seats did not disappoint. Seeing Frasco in a venue that was a church with about 200 people was nothing short of incredible. That place was jumping. Andy is not just an energetic, enthusiastic entertainer he's just a good dude that cares about people and his fans. Thank you sir, I'll be back. Much Love to Momma Frasco.

Beyonce fans were packed tight in a concourse at FedEx Field – a stadium in the Washington, DC, area – as they waited to make their way further into the concert venue following a weather-related shelter-in-place order on August 6. One concertgoer, who asked to remain anonymous, captured footage of the squished fans as they made their way upstairs. The source told Storyful the situation was “so scary,” as people were getting into fights and overheated. According to local news reports, multiple people were treated for heat exhaustion because of the temperature in the crowd. At 6:40 pm, FedEx Field issued the shelter-in-place order, citing lightning in the area. The tweet told guests outside gates and in the parking lot to return to their cars, and guests inside the stadium to “shelter in place under covered concourse areas and ramps until further notice.” The order was cleared at 8:25 pm, but the show was further delayed for rain. Beyonce was eventually able to make her way to the stage and performed in the rain. Credit: Storyful

Had a couple shutdowns for lightning but they kept the indoor stages going. Rain was pretty minimal thankfully.
Highlights were Daniel Donato, Nickelcreek, Holy roller, the well drinkers, and of course 49 Winchester.
49 hosted a "super set" to close out the festival and welcomed a bunch of guests starting with Sierra Hull on the first few tunes, didn't see that one coming. I was hoping they would bring Daniel Donato out and sure enough, it happened! He sat in for a few tunes as well. So damn cool. Also had Jim Lauderdale join them for a handful of songs including pirate looks at 40 in memory of Jimmy Buffett, very touching moment. Closed it out with tons of folks on stage for will the circle be unbroken and I'll fly away. An amazing, very memorable show I won't forget.

www.nytimes.com/2023/08/03/arts/music/phish-lighting-designer-chris-kuroda.html?searchResultPosition=1
Chris Kuroda has brought more than 1,750 of the group’s shows to life since 1989, handling one of the most complex gigs in the business: responding in real time, without a set list.
By Marc Tracy
Aug. 3, 2023
Sometimes Phish, the four-piece, 40-year-old jam band from Vermont, will be in the middle of an extended improvisation and building to one of its characteristic musical climaxes, when Trey Anastasio, the guitarist and frontman, will find a way to communicate to someone across the arena, a football field away, that the peak is not over just yet.
“I will in the subtlest way shake my head and say, ‘No, I’m not there,’” Anastasio said in an interview, “and from way back in the room he always gets this little message. I can take it around eight more bars, or four more bars, this peak, and he’ll make some incredible move right when we make the move. We’re, like, speaking to each other from a great distance. I don’t think anyone would notice this happening other than us.”
Last Friday night at Madison Square Garden, Anastasio’s interlocutor was standing behind five monitors and a lighting control console, wearing a black T-shirt, jeans and Hoka sneakers. He controlled 100 base lighting looks — different permutations of 302 lights, with 79 colors preprogrammed for Phish — some mounted on 30 movable pieces of truss above the stage. It was his 1,752nd Phish show lighting the band.
What makes the job of Chris Kuroda, Phish’s lighting designer for every show save three since 1989, so difficult is the same thing that has made Phish such an object of obsession for its rabid fan base, who has yet again packed the Manhattan arena for a sold-out run, which concludes Friday and Saturday nights.
