You know how most people wear fanny packs on the wrong side of their body? Imagine someone with one of these Beer Belly packs on the wrong side.

Or maybe you shouldn't.

And come to think of it, for most people, any side is wrong for a fanny pack.

Carry a phone charger with you, and maybe one of those small power banks. Besides the "charging stations" you may encounter an open unguarded outlet (I found one near LOVE) or visit an RV.

Some campers bring a big extension cord in case they get lucky and camp near an outlet on a light pole or something, and a fan, and set it up after dark.

All I ever did was mod for a while, and I wasn't even good at it. Dylan and sneake created this space and modded it initially. TOO made it so we don't have to deal with ads or funky, complicated web addresses. That's real, tangible stuff. Anyone can play referee.

Not that I don't appreciate the props, but I'm not even in the same league.

Here is a very readable article about "power stations" or what we typically call "jump boxes": portable rechargeable power supplies. The explanation of watt-hours is the most important, and second, that these cost about $1 per watt hour by size (a 500 watt unit is $500).

I use two "Jackery" brand units with solar panels and can run a kitchen refrigerator overnight in the summer, or run a coffee pot. Generally, though, anything that makes heat will suck it down quickly. The solar panels also charge USB devices directly.

Having a nearby power supply to recharge is important. So for our festival camping applications, you could power your tent site well and schlep up to a friendly RV or vendor to plug in and recharge during the day.

Are you running a coffee pot?

Not asking in a critical way, asking because if there is something nice I might want one too!

I've found a couple of the hand sized power banks is enough to charge our 2 phones for the long weekend.

I use the 50Amp deep cycle AGM cell battery that I take on my sailboat. Geez, prices are up, I paid $160 a year ago, now $220. I just rigged up a couple of power plugs with an inline fuse directly to the terminals. I put in on the table at our camp and tell all the neighbors they can use it to charge their accoutrements. The top rated one in that article was a Jackery 1000 with 46Amps (virtually the same power) for $1000. Granted Jack is lithium allowing you to discharge much lower so more usable power, faster recharge, seems to have some type of inverter to 120v, etc. So apples to fruit basket, but most of what one needs at a camp can be gotten in a 12v format, including a blender/heater/coffee pot. I would spend the extra $800 on tickets!

I use a gas camp stove and percolator for coffee, but might need power for tunes, fans, phone, tablet, lights and recharging those devices, and to jump starting neighbors' cars. Sometimes I run a water pump for a shower.

More likely to be used with a non-powered camper such as a van as an alternative to using a generator or if it doesn't have one, or an RV with no hook-up. That's where a coffee pot might come in. Of course, if you are car camping, you have a supply right there, as long as I am around to jump you Monday morning!

To Kuriti's point and to clarify, the two Jackery 1,000's I use are  not when camping but as part of an off-grid building complex that used to have a power line, so it's overkill and overly expensive just for fest camping, but might be what one wants for emergency back-up or off-grid power.

I always bring a jumpstarter with usb plugs. Never know when you're going to forget to turn the dome light off in your car or something similar. It has saved me a couple of times, and some others around me. Stays in my car at all times. I have jumped people at work, at the grocery store, etc.

I saw people use one of those small ones to start a car this summer at Lockn and was amazed, but we think you'd only get one or two out of it.

My jump box has USB and  "cig lighter" plugs and a compressor; the jackery and similar has USB and also has 110 plugs, as does my car.

I don't carry my jump box routinely, but I always have jumper cables, also in the boat, and mostly for the benefit of others. Taught my daughters how to jump a car (and change a tire and even bypass the starter switch on an outboard). you can use jumper cables to start a fire if you are stranded, too.

Do you worry about it losing its charge by keeping it in the car, or do you sometimes take it out and charge it?

I will usually give it a charge once a month. I made the mistake of not doing that with an old one I had. Once it completely lost its charge, it couldn't be recharged.

Where do they get 20 people you think?


4 in each wing? Thats an awful cozy 4 people.  

2 in each wing and 10 in the center part?

Or is it.. this tent will fit a 20 person orgy if everyone has at least 1 person on top of them.

The separate pods have their own doors for easy access, and there’s another for the screen room." So I guess they look at single sleeping bag footprint to get to 20. The capacity on tents are usually overstated.
