I'm seeing a lot of people say they "don't like Phil". While I personally think not liking Phil is insanity, to each their own. However, if you're in the "I dont like Phil" camp, I encourage you to check out the Q. I think you'll see a lot of your Phil issues don't pertain to this band. They are an actual band with an extensive touring history. You don't get the sloppy and unrehearsed outputs of some PLF lineups. Think back to how messy that Phildusters and Phriends set got at times in '16. That won't happen with this band. Their take on the songbook and classic rock covers is diverse but not so much that there's no flow or rhythm to the set lists. As far as Phil's singing, Haynes and Barraco handle most of the vox. Phil will sing 1-2 songs at most. I also don't think you'll have "Phil being a douche and playing songs he knows other bands will play" issues like in 2015 since his bands headline each night. Lastly, the "slow and deliberate" is a Bob thing, Phil never really has tempo complaints. And with Haynes+Herring there will be plenty of shredding to keep the blood flowing.
I love the nostalgia and Dead tunes as I never got to see them live. Its not so much I dont like him, its that he isnt very good anymore. Ive seen him in a variety of settings. His vocals have always been terrible, then add sloppy unrehearsed bass and its a double wammy for me. Jams seem very disjointed and "off" It just seems he's always late, unrehearsed and does his own thing bc he's Phil. As someone else posted, other bands have taken notice and begin playing before he finishes to ensure they get their time in. I'm going to have a hell of a time and hope to be surprised by some of these acts. Its been a few years so it will be nice to get back to the farm(s).
