2015 Lockn forum meetup discussion

We should get the ball rolling on this meetup (as Sneake mentioned).  I really enjoyed meeting a bunch of you folks last year and would like to see you again, and hopefully meet some new ones this year.  

I believe ADA is the most logical place for this to go down, for any disabled forum memebers sake.  Worked out excellent last year.  If that is not an option we could consider "Garcia's lounge", it is close to ADA and the stages and has great music playing (one thing our meetup had missing last year).

I would love to have it earlier in the morning but I am probably in the minority on that subject. I always wake early and have to find something to occupy my time till music starts. Last year we had to miss some of the music to attend. I wanted to stay longer but couldn't stand the thoughts of missing any more tunes.

Once we see the final schedule (with times) I think that we can make a more informed decision. One thought that I had was maybe after the JGB show on Friday morning and before music started on the main stages. Site TBD but something close to Shakedown would be good (such as ADA). Another thought was to have it inside the main event field before one of the shows. That would be easy for everyone to find, we would have access to food and drink, and we could hang out and listen to music if we wanted.

I'm totally good with after MSJGBJK any of the places you or O1 mentioned. Inside at Lockn Local would be a good spot then if we hang out a while people could come and go to the music. I have every intention of making it to this years gathering.

I think too's idea with meeting inside makes sense. I, also, don't want to miss much of the music as Lobster mentioned and being inside would take care of that.

Meeting inside would mean no home brews or snacks. But I'm open to anything. It will be nice when we get a time schedule & map to plan.

Waycha has a valid point about the homebrews and snacks. No beer swap inside either. Maybe we could meet up before music outside and have a set place inside to meet later.

Fun to bounce some ideas around, we have plenty of time to iron out the details.

Layout could be altered a little this year too. Seems like they are trying to move more stuff to their side of the property with the new stages.

I had the same thought. Swapping brews was a great part of the meetup last year.

Hellooooo you darlings! I would gladly host the meetup this year. I'll be in ADA, and if the Meetup is elsewhere, it can always serve as a stopping point for folks camping far out to use on the way too or from the festivities. Stop for a brew, tea, some shade, shenanigan... My first Lockn, I left a small cooler with friends in ADA. It made it nice after that long walk from RV to have a drink... Lifesaver.

Hadn't though about the exchange. Last year I missed the meeting so I smuggled the beers into the show for my brother in law. I found Worf and Sue later and ADA camping was a great place. I'm camping this year instead of moteling it so it will be way easier. really looking forward to meeting everyone!!!

Glad Andie is able to host this year. After some corrective surgery last October, Worf is getting around a lot better, so we're expecting to be in car camping this year.  But ADA was a great place for the meetup because of proximity to the stage area while still allowing us to trade some brews.

The beer exchange was fun, inspired by discussions about good canned craft beer. Since people were bringing it in from all over the country, the idea was to trade regional beers, so I brought some from my home in Norfolk Virginia and traded off for some beers from other climes.

But those who didn't want to participate in the exchange of course were welcome; the exchange was just an activity.

This year I think I'll bring some cups for tasting, so we can pass around some flavors without having to take a whole can.

I liked last year's central location and recommend a place along the central road again.

While there isn't music playing would be a good idea or inside the main stage area.  You don't always know who really wants to see which bands.  I missed last year because it was in the middle of one of the lesser known acts I had been wanting to check out for a while so I missed it.  No big deal of course, but you would probably get better attendance without any musical conflicts.

Good point; they start the main stage at 11 or so, granted it's the locals first then the lesser acts, but that is also right after the triangle stage sets (Blue ridge bowl this year?) which tend to be more attractive than the main stage that follows. So a conflict is inevitable.

Friday morning was a good time since some don't come until late Thursday/early Friday, and then we could know each other when we see someone again.

I had a great view/sound of the main stage from steeplechase hill. But since it's VIP, and on a hill, it wouldn't work for the group, but my point is there may be a spot outside Chug-point Charlie but close enough where we can hear/see the acts but do our own snack and beverage service?

First Lockn this year but have been living vicariously through you all on these boards. Would love participate in the meet up. After looking at the Photo thread, I think a Biggest Baddest Beard competition is in order:). Hope to see you all in Sept. BTW, can you just walk in to the ADA section?

Yes you can walk right in. My wife just cut my beard but I wasn't a contender anyway (~);}

Last year was my first & your in for the time of your life. We all walked into ADA last year for the meetup so wherever it is hope to meet you. Are you coming with anyone?

Thank-You on the beard compliment. Maybe we could have category's, I'll take longest, wildest would be Sneake & Mccjeff, Chin hair to Wharfrat & Vafatboy, & WildBill, not wild but full & trim.
 I agree having Andie Bee as a host, you sound sweet.

I went to the swap and meetup last year with a buddy that was on the forum. It was so much fun, and now I've joined so I can be a part again this year. My plan is to bring so good ole NC beer.
