This just blows my mind! This is now far and away the best festival of the year. They have people that I am really excited to see, such as Little Feat and Trombone Shorty, who I love, who are totally overshadowed by the main acts.
I will say the schedule looks quite a bit better, with Anders and NMO not being the openers on Friday, plus some other changes. I see a couple holes...issues...Galactic is now listed as the only late night act Thursday (which is OK, just a change from precedent) and I hate to say it but I don't know if I will be able to see Mickey in the woods because I still don't think I'm leaving early from MD&E or Philtana. Can't see it. That was the one positive of having Deer Tick and Steve Earle being the early late night sets...I didn't mind missing either of them. I will hate to miss Mickey. Hot Tuna being added to main stage is a big plus as I missed them last year and was worried about missing them again this year...again not being due to not being able to leave the main stage and make it to the woods.
Still keeps my hopes of TOO alive!

John Popper, Wow with Billy & The Kids, this just got better.
Micky Hart with EOTO!!! I've been wanting to see EOTO & they add this to the best festival I've ever been to!!! I love good drums so this will be different from what you might think but I bet a lot of people will walk away saying damn I'm glad I saw that.

And that includes some reservation about making promises for Bobby at all. Not being unkind, but his track record is not that good.
It makes no sense, however, for a "surprise" core 4 appearance other than in Bobby's slot, unless the individual musicians simply want to sit in with someone. So ask yourself--are these guys, at their age/career and this day and time, interested in a "fun" jam, or in a paying gig? I sense the latter.
And I sense the tension point is between Lesh and the other three? Am I reading it right?

Well, Billy, for at least one, loves to sit in with other bands and has done so a couple of times recently, including in New Orleans with a group of unknown guys. So, yeah, its a business but they still like making music.
Yes, Lesh does not want to play with the other 3. Or they don't want to play with him.

I think they lined Shapiro's pockets just as much as he lined theirs. Nothing is owed to anyone.
I think that there is no chance that the 4 of them play together. Especially not as a SVIP show. The fallout from that would be toxic for all of them.
I think Phil wants to enjoy his life the way he wants to, not the way you or I would like him to. From the the looks of it that means playing where he wants, when he wants and with whom he wants. That apparently does not include playing in a lineup that includes Bob, Billy & Mickey.
But I've been wrong before.
What happens if I take both?
